Golden Plains Receives Donations

Golden Plains Schools have received multiple donations from area businesses this past year.  They recently accepted a $400 donation from American Implement in Colby.  This award came from 2016 Winter Service donations.  Local farmers were able to designate Golden Plains as the recipient for this donation based on service work performed by American Implement.  Schwarz Farms III, Schwarz Land & Cattle, Donald Rall, and H & H Partnerships (Larry & Jerry Hill) designated Golden Plains to receive this donation.

The school also recently received a $200 check from Sunflower Bank as part of its ABC Program.  Other donations received throughout the year included $100 from Rural Telephone for home touchdowns during football season, $240 from Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll drive, $100 from Greater Horizons, $200 from Hoxie Feedyard for Back to School BBQ, $237 from Lifetouch, $600 from Leadership Thomas County, $94 from ASD School Store, and $520 from the Sheridan Community Initiative.

The family of Gerald Childs donated funds to establish a Gerald Childs Scholarship for students planning to major in education.  Kami Miller received the first award this year.  The school also received a $1000 donation for winning the Mascot Mania area contest sponsored by KAKE TV and Open Spaces Sports last fall.

District patrons donated additional money through the Box Tops for Education, Labels for Education, and MyCokeRewards programs.  Box tops, labels, and Coke codes are brought to school and sent to the sponsors.  This year Golden Plains Schools received over $730 from Box Tops, playground equipment from Labels for Educaiton, and over $84 from mycokerewards.

“We appreciate all the support the community gives to the schools,” said Superintendent Darrin Herl.  “All donations go towards student education and provide additional opportunities for student learning.”
